Servicing your AC unit before summer temps arrive

The Mississippi heat is back again, but before those summer temps reach their highs, now is a good time to have your air conditioner serviced.

Representatives from Geiger Heating and Air are already busy with service calls as summer approaches.

Geiger’s Brian Younger says when outside temps reach 90 degrees or higher, your AC unit can run constantly, making now the ideal time to have it checked.

Younger has a few tips that can help keep your unit in tip-top shape and save you some money on your bill. “Keep the air conditioning serviced, keep it cleaned regularly at least once a year, sometimes twice a year depending on the trees around. Keep bushes and shrubs cut away from it, that way nothing is blocking the air movement through it. They need to have the drain flushed to make sure there’s no water going to leak. Keep your thermostat setting a little higher than normal. I know I like it cold but if you keep it around 75 to 78, you’re going to save more money.

Younger also says if you hear a noise that sounds like metal on top of metal, turn your unit off and call somebody.
