Sentenced to 30 years for armed robbery

Forty-five year-old Gulfport native Robert Thomas pled guilty to two counts of armed robbery and was sentenced to 30 years in prison today.

This case began in September of last year after two Subway employees on 25th Avenue in Gulfport called police advising they had been robbed at gunpoint. Three days after the robbery took place, Thomas walked into the Gulfport Police Department and confessed to the armed robbery. He told police he had stolen a BB gun from Walmart and decided to commit a violent crime because he wanted to go back to prison.

At his plea, the defendant apologized to the court for his actions and advised he was high on crack cocaine when he committed his crime.
