Senior Olympics Opening Ceremony takes place tomorrow

What better way to kick off the Mississippi Senior Olympics than with a big party?

The opening ceremony for the games will be held tomorrow from 5 to 8 p.m. at Point Cadet Plaza in Biloxi. The event is free for athletes and a guest and $10 for additional guests. The ceremony will feature live music by Southwind and a barbecue buffet.

Over the next two months, almost 500 Mississippi seniors will compete in the 2019 Mississippi Senior Olympics.

Cecilia Dobbs-Walton with the City of Biloxi tells News 25 that the Senior Olympics are more than just a way for older adults to stay healthy. “So, it’s a fun, important event. It is, again, a way for people to stay healthy, but it’s also, it’s a friendly competition, but we have some of those really serious ones that really enjoy it and really focus on it. We give out awards and of course every other year they can qualify for nationals.”

Shuffleboard, badminton, and basketball are next at the games, all scheduled to be played through Saturday.
