Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith stops on the Coast

Nearly 250 people gathered today in Jackson County for the annual Jackson County Republican Women’s Founder’s day luncheon.

This event celebrates outstanding Mississippi women including Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith.

It was a ‘who’s who’ of Mississippi Republicans in Moss Point on Thursday. Among them was Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. She was honored as an Outstanding Mississippi Woman by the Jackson County Republican Women’s Club. “I had the opportunity to honor several of us together.”

Other notable guests in attendance were Mississippi First Lady Deborah Bryant and Congressman Steven Palazzo who says it is extremely important to recognize all of the things women do in the Republican party. Congressman Palazzo said, “They’ve come so far. They can be role models for young girls and young boys and just succeeding and overcoming adversity and obstacles.”

This is Senator Hyde-Smith’s first year in office and she is the first female to represent Mississippi in Washington, D.C. “We are enjoying that confidence that comes with just getting used to the routines and the personalities and making the contacts and the personal relationships that we have.”

The senator says South Mississippi holds a special place in her heart thanks to the shipyards. She also says that the funding will be available to continue to build ships. “I serve on the appropriations committee and we have had some very good successes. We have had funding that will be available to continue the important things that so many families that live here on the Coast.”

Senator Hyde-Smith says that moving forward she would like to see everyone work together to tackle some big issues. “We have so many job openings in Mississippi right now which tells us we are on the right path. We are on a very good track, but we need work force training. We need those things to make Mississippians to be profitable at the end of the day. It’s about a good standard of living and a good place to raise your family.”
