Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith Calls on President Trump to Approve Temporary Pumps to Ease Mississippi Flooding
On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith asked President Donald Trump to approve the use of temporary pumps in the Yazoo backwater area to begin moving floodwaters that have contaminated the region for months on end. Senator Hyde-Smith is stressing the immediate need to remove the trapped floodwaters, and these pumps are needed to do just that. It’s a story we’ve continually covered as more than 500 families in the Delta area have been affected by this flooding. Back in 2008, the Yazoo pump plan was scrapped after the EPA voiced concerns that it would hurt wetlands, an argument residents say is no longer valid.
