Senate BP Oil Spill Settlement Bill

Coast lawmakers authored a number of bills in an attempt to keep BP Oil Spill Settlement Money on the coast.
Only one survived the first bill killing deadline of the legislative session.
The bill authored by Pascagoula Senator Brice Wiggins, creates the gulf coast new restoration reserve fund, which would hold the funds separate from general tax dollars.
Ultimately, legislators still decide how to spend the money, but it keeps it from being lumped in the state’s general fund.
A bill authored by a North Mississippi legislator would have required all BP funds be appropriated for state and county road maintenance died in committee.
