Selection Monday Watch Party: PRCC draws #1 seed in NJCAA Tournament
Undefeated and yet still underrated, the Pearl River Community College men’s basketball team is chasing history and yet still going up against it on Selection Monday.
This afternoon, the Wildcats drew the number one seed in next week’s NJCAA Tournament where they’ll be four wins away from their first-ever National Championship following a first round bye.
This is PRCC’s second straight trip to Hutchinson, Kansas on the back of the program’s second straight Region 23 title.
Pearl River is the nation’s last unbeaten team and is looking to become just the seventh team to win it all without losing a single game.
No matter the outcome, Head Coach Chris Oney says his Wildcats are playing with house money from here on out. “Well, I think we’re done talking about legacy now that we’re here. I think this team’s legacy has already been made. Now it’s just icing for the cake. And depending on how we play next week, depends on how much icing goes on the cake. But to accomplish what they’ve accomplished, 28-0. The way they’ve done it is something that will always be talked about, no matter if it’s a storybook ending or just an ending.”
PRCC still has another eight days before its next game against the winner of 16 seed Moberly Area out of Kansas and 17 seed Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa.
Perhaps some unfinished business for the Wildcats who were bounced in the second round of last year’s tournament.
