Secretary of State on Coast Thursday Afternoon to Weigh in on Bonnet Carre Spillway Issue

The heavy rainfall expected over the next few days in Mississippi and Louisiana could impact whether or not officials decide to close the Bonnet Carre Spillway.

Just a few weeks ago, leaders with the U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers in Louisiana said they could decide to close the spillway mid-July, but that could all change with the heavy rainfall and flooding expected to take place.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann has scheduled a press conference here on the Coast — set for 3:30 pm on Thursday — to discuss the impact of the operation of the Bonnet Carre Spillway on the Mississippi Gulf Coast at the Secretary Of State’s Gulfport office on 24th Avenue in Gulfport.

Meanwhile, trillions of gallons of fresh water continues to gush into our Mississippi Sound, killing marine life, business, and tourism in our area
