Second teenager arrested in Goldin Sportsplex shooting

The second suspect in the shooting at the Goldin Sportsplex has been arrested. Eighteen-year-old John Michael Heflin and 18-year-old Briceston John Lewis Fairley have both been arrested on charges of aggravated assault.
On September 4, 2017, at approximately 09:30 A.M., members of the Gulfport Police Department located Fairley in the 100 Block of 33rd Avenue. Fairley was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility to be held in lieu of a $250,000 bond set by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Brandon Ladner. On August 17, 2017, at approximately 7:12 p.m., the Gulfport Police Department responded to 12000 Block of Prudie Circle for a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male victim who was suffering from a gunshot wound. American Medical Response (AMR) was summoned to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital.
During follow-up investigations, Heflin and Fairley were developed as the suspects involved in the assault. Based on the information received, warrants were obtained for their arrests on the charge of Aggravated Assault.
What led to the shooting is still under investigation.
On August 20, 2017, at approx. 11:20 P.M., Gautier PD arrested Heflin in their jurisdiction after a foot pursuit. After booking and other procedures, Heflin was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility to be held in lieu of a $250,000 bond set by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Brandon Ladner.
