Second annual Officer Robert McKeithen Blood Drive

It’s been over two years since the Coast laid Officer Robert McKeithen to rest.

The Biloxi officer was fatally shot in front of the police station, leaving behind a heartbroken community. In honor of Officer McKeithen, the annual blood drive was held Thursday at the Biloxi Visitors Center.

McKeithen’s friends showed up, along with plenty of fellow law enforcement officers.

The blood drive allows those interested to pay their respects and hopefully save others in the process.

It’s an event that’s beneficial for multiple reasons. One reason is to pay homage to the fallen officer’s legacy and another is for the blood supply that is at an all-time low. Vitalant Donor Recruit Representative John Pace said, “I think that Mac would be proud to know that so many lives are being touched, changed, and saved. You save lives when you do this in his memory.”

The organizers are planning a blood drive for next year as well. Same time, same place with the same goal of honoring Officer McKeithen’s legacy and saving lives.
