SEC Media Days: Ole Miss Head Coach Lane Kiffin reacts to NIL impact on recruiting
Ole Miss Head Football Coach Lane Kiffin is no stranger to signing multi-million-dollar contracts, but there’s not a college coach in America that’s used to sharing a locker with other millionaires.
Name, Image, Likeness discussions a hot topic at this week’s SEC Media Days after learning Alabama quarterback Bryce Young has already made close to seven figures in NIL deals without having even taking a snap as a starter.
Perhaps the most explosive shift in recruiting the sport has ever seen, Coach Kiffin says that’s just the tip of the iceberg. “Well, it is. It’s a part of recruiting now. And so, we’re in the beginning of that and I think we’re going to learn a lot over a year. What happens at all the different places and the compliance aspect of it, and if you guys that were in there learning in the press conference that Coach Saban said that Bryce made a million dollars already. It’s wild. We’re professional sports. Because we really have free agency too now.”
As for the Rebels on the field, they’re coming off a 5-5 season in 2020 with an Egg Bowl victory over rival Mississippi State and an Outback Bowl victory over seventh-ranked Indiana.
