SEC announces conference-only model
The Southeastern Conference is widely considered to be the best conference in all of college football and now the SEC gets the chance to prove it.
Today, the league announced a 10 game conference only schedule, starting September 26th and culminating with the SEC championship game on December 19th two weeks later than originally planned.
That means doing away with four non-conference games and expanding upon the usual slate of eight league match-ups including six divisional foes, one permanent cross-divisional foe and one rotating cross-divisional foe.
According to ESPN, one proposal under consideration would allow teams to schedule their rotating opponent from the 2021 and 2022 seasons as the other two conference games.
This coming just one day after the ACC came out with a similar format while the Big Ten and Pac 12 went to the conference only-model several weeks back.
