Searching for Justice

On April 14th, 2006, 24-year-old Brandon Taylor and 26-year-old Gary Riley were found barbarically murdered in their car in Moss Point. Today, both families joined the Moss Point Police Department and Crime Stoppers to remind the public they are still searching for justice.
Stacey Riley, Gary Riley’s sister, said, “It’s time for us to do what’s called community policing. It takes a community to bring the person or people down that’s responsible for this.”
It was this desperate sister’s plea that made the whole room relive a terrible day in 2006 when the Moss Point Police Department found Brandon Taylor and Gary Riley slumped over in a blue Chevy Tahoe, each with multiple gunshot wounds.
Now, two families search for justice nine years later while a suspect remains at large. “You sleep at night. We sleep at night, but when we sleep before we go to sleep we’re praying. We’re praying that you and whoever else know something, to come forward,” said Stacey Riley.
Both Taylor and Riley left behind children of their own, children who will never know their fathers. This is a sad reality that Brandon Taylor’s mother, Melonee Wilson, says is the most devastating part of all. “They’re great. They’re both nine. They’re growing. It’s sad that they won’t know their dad you know, but things happen.”
Both families say hearing the news of Sunday’s triple shooting in Moss Point brought back to life the hurt they felt nine years ago. “It makes me feel for the mothers because I know first-hand what it feels like to lose a child to gun violence,” said Wilson.
Like this cold case and in the recent shootings, both families are also pleading with a community to speak up. “We want somebody to come forward and to tell,” said Stacey Riley, “It’s been long enough and it’s time to put an end to it. It’s time for people to stop knowing stuff exists in our community and don’t want to step forward and say something. But when something happens in your family, you want people to say something.”
