Seabees compete in ‘Black Hell Squad’ in honor of squadron that served during WWII

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- The Naval Construction Battalion Center’s annual Black Hell Squad event was held Friday morning, bringing Seabees together to honor the legacy of those from a Seabee squadron that served in World War II.

The Black Hell Squad competition challenged the Seabees through obstacles inspired by the harsh conditions faced during the 1945 World War II Battle of Iwo Jima.

From medical training to land navigation and defensive operations, each stage was designed to test their agility, teamwork, and communication under pressure.

In the end, the alumni team took home the banner, but for many, the biggest victory was building trust and sharpening their skills.
