Seabee Memorial Plaza unveiled
This year, Seabees all across the country spent the year celebrating their 75th Anniversary.
Today, the Seabees at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport celebrated the special anniversary with a ribbon cutting. The new Seabee Memorial Plaza was unveiled today during a special ceremony.
The memorial plaza has been built next to the Seabee Training Hall and it has been under construction since this past April and was planned and built completely by Seabees.
The event today signified the end of the year-long series of events to commemorate the heritage and history of the U.S Navy Seabees during this anniversary milestone. Rear Admiral Bret Muilenburg said, “The Seabees were commissioned first in 1942 for World War II and we have been serving the Navy and the nation ever since. So, we have had a year-long celebration all over the country. We have already been to Gulfport at least once. This is our final event of the year and we like to say we saved the best for last here in Gulfport, Mississippi.”
The Seabee Memorial Plaza is filled with bricks with the names of Seabees who have both lost their lives or are still serving our country.
