Scattered showers linger through the weekend

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the forecast for south Mississippi

Tonight, rain chances increase after 3 a.m. as temperatures drop into the mid-70s.

Saturday will bring a mix of sunshine and scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the first half of the day. Highs will reach the upper 80s, with most areas picking up only a little rainfall, although a few storms could produce heavier downpours.

Saturday night stays fairly quiet with a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm before 3 a.m. Sunday starts mostly sunny, but rain and storm chances increase during the afternoon. Temperatures will climb close to 90 degrees.

The heat builds into next week. Monday and Tuesday look mostly sunny with only a small chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm, while highs climb into the lower 90s.

Rain and storm chances increase again Wednesday through Friday, but sunshine will still be possible each day. Highs remain around 90 to the lower 90s, with overnight lows generally in the low to mid-70s.

Overall, expect a few rounds of showers and thunderstorms this weekend, followed by a warmer and mostly sunny start to next week before rain chances increase again toward the end of the week.
