Scarlet Pearl Sportsbook prepares for football season
Following a successful year of sports betting, one Coast casino is expecting an even busier season.
The sportsbook at the Scarlet Pearl has begun preparing for the college football season.
It’s that time of the year again. Football is back. Sportsbook Supervisor Nikki McGowan said, “Well, it is exciting. You always root for your favorite team and now you can put a wager on it, which makes it even more exciting.”
The Draft Kings Sports Book at the Scarlet Pearl Casino is sharing that excitement. They are expecting plenty of action. “College football being back, this is college football territory. Up north, you see a lot more NFL favorites, here it is SEC. Everyone is pumped up.”
According to a Global Market Advisors study, Mississippi was projected to receive $180 million in bets through their first year of legalized sports wagering. They crushed that number, bringing in over $300 million in those 12 months, including over $150 million between September and December. This begs the question: is there nowhere to go but up? “We’ve seen the interest in sports betting, coming here watching the games, but this year’s going to be even better and it’s going to be bigger. I think it’s going to be three times larger than it was last year.”
With an expectation of larger crowds for football season, the sportsbook is offering 24/7 wagering on personal kiosks, which allows for bettors to take their time and make their own selections.
Also new for the Scarlet Pearl is expanded prop betting, which includes stat totals and first and second half lines, which is debuting just in time for the 16 college games that kickoff on Thursday.
