Scarlet Pearl prepares for big weekend in football
All eyes will be on the Peach Bowl tomorrow as the undefeated LSU Tigers are just one win away from a national championship appearance. As the Tigers gear up for a matchup against Oklahoma on Saturday, local sportsbooks are also preparing.
Scarlet Pearl Sportsbook Manager Brad Carpenter said, “Dipped our toe in the water last year, a lot of people didn’t even know we were open yet because we opened in November. So this year, huge difference, the ticket counts are higher, the amount of money being bet is higher.”
That infatuation with sports betting is pretty simple: football just means more in the South. “It’s completely different from when I lived in Vegas as far as people rooting on college football here. It’s great.”
It’s been a successful football season for two of the more popular teams in the South, the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints.
As the Saints approach their playoff run, LSU is treading into new territory, an appearance in the College Football Playoffs against Oklahoma, which sets up sportsbooks like the Scarlet Pearl pretty nicely. “It’s great for us because when LSU does well or local teams do well, you’ve got your casual fans like to come out and put $5 or $10 dollars on a game to have even a better rooting interest than they already do.”
Large crowds are expected at the sportsbook on Saturday for the big match-up of one versus four. Featured during the game is live-wagering, which allows for bettors to stay engaged and up to date with the game. “In-play wagering, it’s great. It’s on all of our kiosks. You just go up and hit ‘in play’ and the line will be adjusting throughout the game depending on the situation and you can make bets all the way through the second half.”
