Saucier man sentenced to 40 years in prison for murder
A Saucier man blamed drugs after pleading guilty to the 2014 murder of Brian Bachtel.
Twenty-nine year-old Stephen Hagin was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the charge of second degree murder. Hagin admitted to shooting Bachtel with a shotgun because he did not have enough money to buy drugs he asked the victim to bring him.
Because Hagin is a habitual offender, he will have to serve every day of his sentence and will not be eligible for early release or parole.
