Sand Clearing Begins

The roadways along the beach in Biloxi may look a little bit clearer as crews work to clear sand from Highway 90 parking bays and turning lanes.
The sand has been accumulating since November and Biloxi Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich says it’s time for it to go. You’ll now see public work crews out and about working to clear the sand that’s blown from the beach to some parts of the highway.
City officials say not only is this a good thing for city residents but it’s also another measure to make sure Biloxi looks fresh and clean to tourists. Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Vincent Creel said, “We’ve also got our Parks and Recreation Department out there doing some edging along the medians. We know that we want to give a really good impression to any visitors that we have in town for Mardi Gras and we want it looking good for our local people.”
In addition to aesthetics, the sand removal will also create a safer path for those running or biking along the beach and for drivers.
