Sand bag locations help Gulf Coast residents prepare for heavy rain

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV) — Tropical storm Arthur has formed and its impacts to south Mississippi will come primarily in the form of a lot of rain over the next couple of days. That means residents in some low-lying areas are stocking up on sandbags.

Several self-serve sandbag locations have opened along the Gulf Coast in Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson counties, giving residents the chance to fill bags to protect their homes from flood water. In Harrison County, quite a few people were seen at the Long Beach Harbor and in Gulfport at the Courthouse Road pier shoveling sand to prepare for the incoming weather.

Remember, these are self-serve locations, so you do have to bring your own shovel.
