Salvation Army Eyeing Land for new Gym

The Salvation Army is looking into taking over land south of their property to build a new gym.
Previously there was confusion on who owned the property off Lee Street near Esters Boulevard, the city or the Kroc Center. Last week it was learned the property, currently being used for Biloxi infrastructure work, is owned by the city.
It is the hope of Major Gary Sturdivant with the Salvation Army to take possession of that land and build a gym for children and adults in the neighborhood to use for free. “It’s still going to be a great place for people to come out and just have a good time and not have to pay for it. A community center, we’re kind of excited about that and it will make a huge impact. That’s what Joan Kroc’s wish was, that kids in the neighborhood would have the same luxuries that her grandchildren would have.”
Major Sturdivant went on to say they are very early in the planning stages and hope to get moving as quickly as possible on the project.
