Salvation Army Commemorates Katrina

As the Salvation Army celebrates its 150th anniversary, tonight the Mississippi Gulf Coast chapter decided to also commemorate the recovery of the Gulf Coast after Katrina.
Tonight local and state dignitaries came together with those at the Salvation Army to celebrate the camaraderie storm fostered in us all.
Salvation Army officials say coming together was crucial for recovery. Major Gary Sturdivant, Salvation Army area commander, said, “I was not here but I understand. I am standing on the shoulders of a lot of wonderful people that came to this Coast on behalf of the Salvation Army. I hear it weekly about how wonderful people served here in this community.”
Major Sturdivant tells News 25 tonight’s event not only celebrates our recovery but continued progress as the Salvation Army moves forward with the building of the “Center of Hope.”
