Salvation Army Celebrates 150 Years

The Salvation Army is celebrating 150 years of ‘Doing the most good’ around the world.
The Salvation Army is the second largest U.S. charity. The area command here on the Gulf Coast has been around since 1907, providing over 500,000 meals, 72,000 grocery orders and distributing clothes to Coast residents in need. The Gulf Coast division is now in the process of opening up a ‘Center of Hope’ transitional housing center to help even more people.
Major Gary Sturdivant, Salvation Army area commander, said, “Right now, we’ve got our eyes on a piece of property. We have the drawings done. So, we’ll just continue to grow and just continue to help as many people as we possibly can and bring hope to where they feel like there’s no hope.”
The Salvation Army hopes to have the ‘Center of Hope’ built within the next two years but until then will continue to offer help to anyone who reaches out to them.
