Saints WR Michael Thomas to have ankle surgery
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas held without a single catch in Sunday’s playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and suddenly that stat line makes a lot more sense.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Thomas is likely to have off-season surgeries on both the torn deltoid and other injured ligaments in his high ankle, dating back to his initial week one injury against the Bucs.
Per the report, Thomas knew it was likely Drew Brees’ final season and didn’t want to miss out on trying to win a Super Bowl with Brees.
After setting the NFL’s single season record with 149 receptions in 2019, Thomas played in only seven regular season games in 2020, starting in just five of them while logging 40 receptions without finding the end zone once.
