Saints, New Orleans nearing new Superdome lease, renovation
It’s hard to imagine the post-Katrina recovery process without the Saints in New Orleans, but at one point moving the franchise was a very real possibility.
If there was still any doubt about where the Black and Gold belong long term, well, there isn’t anymore.
According to Jeff Duncan of the Times-Picayune, the Saints are closing in on a ten year extension with the state of Louisiana that would keep the team at the Superdome through 2035 with $450 million for the stadium as a part of the deal.
The current lease runs through 2025.
Among the renovation plans are a new visitors’ locker room, a new standing-room only section, additional suites, and expanded concourses.
The Superdome has been the host site to a record seven Super Bowls and is slated to host Super Bowl 58 in 2024. If approved those renovations would be completed before that game.
If a 6-1 home playoff record since Sean Payton and Drew Brees arrived in 2006 is any indication, the Saints dome field advantage is one of the best in the league.
