Saints lose Delvin Breaux for six weeks

Earlier this week, multiple reports suggested the New Orleans Saints were looking to trade cornerback Delvin Breaux amongst growing frustration with his injuries. Today, the front office got rid of a couple other people instead.
As it turns out, Breaux actually has a fractured fibula after being misdiagnosed with a leg contusion, causing him to miss a week of training camp. The discovery was made by an independent doctor which led to the dismissal of two team orthopedists as first reported by ESPN’s Mike Triplett.
Now, Breaux is expected to miss the next six weeks instead of likely being ready for the regular season opener had the diagnosis been correct when he first went down. Head Coach Sean Payton said, “There was nothing that they were able to see and then gradually throughout the two-week period it become more clear. And listen, fortunately the other day in the second opinion he was able to see something more significant and that’s a setback. And obviously it’s disappointing for him, but more importantly something that slowed down the progress.”
A six week timetable for recovery puts Breaux’s return somewhere around late September prior to the Saints’ trip across the pond to take on the Miami Dolphins.
