Saints Lose Close One to Lions; Remain Winless on Road

Unfortunately, it’s another gloomy Monday for the Who Dat Nation as the Saints fall to 2-4 for the season. It really was a heartbreaker for New Orleans on Sunday as the Saints remain winless on the road.

The Saints held a 13 point lead until late in the 4th quarter and seemed to have it in the bag, but the Detroit Lions roared back to win it. Saints Head Coach, Sean Payton, says, “Down the stretch, we had opportunities to win the game. It’s frustrating. We weren’t able to do it.”

Quarterback Drew Brees completed 28 passes for 335 yards, but one he didn’t want to complete cost them the game. An interception late in the game set up a scoring drive for Detroit. Lions Quarterback, Matt Stafford, found Corey Fuller in the back of the end zone for the winning play. Brees says, “I think what’s so hard is the worst feeling in professional sports is when you feel like you let your team down, and that’s the way I feel right now with that interception.”

The momentum was in the Saints’ favor up until then, with some good scoring drives and the lead throughout the entire game. Even in the final seconds, the Saints had a chance to storm down field and set up Shayne Graham for what would be the winning field goal, but they were just not able to deliver. Payton also says, “When you don’t win in this league, it’s tough. It’s tough to come to work and get back up off the ground, and it’s certainly a lot easier after a win than after a loss.”

Once again, it means putting another loss behind them and focusing on the road ahead. Brees closes, “I told the guys after there’s no better way to get back on track than to go home on Sunday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers, who are rolling right now, and find a way to win.”

Even though the Saints are having trouble on the road, they have not lost a game in the Superdome since 2013. Hopefully the home field advantage will play in their favor when they host Green Bay for Sunday Night Football. You can watch the game on WXXV NBC.
