Saints Get First Win of Regular Season at Home
Saints Quarterback, Drew Brees, pulled out some W.W.E. Smackdown moves after Captain Munnerlyn slammed him to the ground late in the third quarter. The 15 yards gained from unnecessary roughness seemed to be what put a spark in the Saints’ offense to finish off the game. Brees says, “That was straight Hulk Hogan, 1985 Wrestle Mania Suplex. Hey, it got us 15 yards, got us another set of downs, and obviously ended up helping us go on a 90 yard drive. Make it a two possession game and chew up a lot of clock and got the momentum swinging in our favor.”
The Saints’ offense dominated the first quarter, with two touchdown drives and they had an impressive game overall with 288 passing yards and 108 rushing, but it’s hats off to the defense for Sunday’s win, who held the Minnesota Vikings to just three field goals in the red zone. Saints Head Coach, Sean Payton, says, “You know, forcing them to settle for field goals. That’s huge. That’s the one thing we were able to do when we were playing well last year and we did it today.”
This week, the Saints were able to start and finish strong. Players say this really gets the momentum moving in the right direction for the rest of the season. Saints Inside Linebacker, Curtis Loftin, says, “I think just getting the win itself just boosts your confidence and just changes your whole outlook at everything, ‘cause you know we’ve been 0-2. It hasn’t been as coach said, cupcakes and clowns or whatever he said.”
Saints Running Back, Pierre Thomas, says, “It takes a lot of pressure off you. A lot of weight is lifted off our shoulders. You know, we’re not behind like we were in the beginning of the season, but we feel comfortable now. We feel like it’s a change, the start of a change right now.”
The Saints will take on the Dallas Cowboys Sunday night in Dallas. You can watch the game on WXXV NBC. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
