Saints Center Max Unger retiring
The NFL Free Agency period can be a little unpredictable, but the New Orleans Saints didn’t have much time to address their need at center that they didn’t know they had until Saturday.
Over the weekend and without warning, Max Unger retired from professional football with one year still remaining on his contract.
Today, he spoke to the media for the first time, citing health concerns related to lower-body ailments as the primary reason for his decision.
Unger says those injuries would cause him to miss an entire offseason which would prevent him from meeting his playing standard.
No one has started more games at center with Drew Brees under center which makes that Jimmy Graham trade actually look not so bad.
As a replacement, the Saints have signed Nick Easton to a four year $24 million deal, but they could also lean on former Southern Miss standout Cameron Tom to fill that void.
