Saenger Theatre update

A pivotal piece of Biloxi history is still working out some of the kinks for revitalization.

The City of Biloxi continues to look for avenues of funding to help with repairs and renovations to the Saenger Theatre.

Biloxi City Council recently authorized an application for the Gulf Coast Restoration Fund grant to help revamp the theatre.

This is only the beginning stages for renovations as this rich piece of history looks to become a staple in the community again, just like in 1929 when the theatre first opened. Cecilia Dobbs-Walton with the City of Biloxi said, “It was touted as the gem of the city. Mayor Gilich has said that several times, that it is the gem of the city. It is in downtown. There is a lot of revitalization going on downtown, a lot of growth, and this just enhances that area.”

The City of Biloxi is ready to repair the fly tower and the roof of the theater. However, they are still looking for more funding to knock out some more construction at one time.
