S.R.H.S. Starts Culinary Program with Moss Point High
This is the third year of the culinary arts partnership at Singing River Hospital, which brings students from Moss Point High School into the kitchen to learn industry standards, such as food safety, sanitation, basic cooking, and baking principles. The students will make weekly visits to the hospital as part of the school sponsored program. Hospital officials feel they get as much out of it as the students do.
Scott Butcher, Director of Food Nutrition for S.R.H.S., says, "As far as the students go, they get hands on training, they get to learn about safety and sanitation, which is very important in the hospital setting. As far as the hospital goes, the students are a great asset, they bring smiling faces, they look very professional, and they help us out tremendously."
Butcher says some students struggling with finding a career path have found a passion for food and the industry in the program.
