Rivers Expected to Rise with the Rain
So far, we’ve seen over five inches of rain in Harrison County and that number is only expected to increase as rain continues throughout the week.
Emergency management officials want to make sure everyone is mindful of flooding, especially while driving. Much of the concern is with the rivers. The weather service reports the Biloxi River could rise up as high as 16 feet. EMA officials tell News 25 they feel that number is high but is possible as rain continues to fall. Harrison County EMA Director Rupert Lacy said, “The river is out of its bank. So that’s going to be something we’re going to have to deal with. Our high tide is later tonight and the bad part of things right now is that we’ve got an east, southeasterly wind, so that’s pushing water into the bays. It’s going to give us flooding issues for a little bit longer than what we would like especially at the Christmas season.”
Lacy says if you live on the river to be sure to keep an eye on your property.
