River Oaks Elementary honoring social worker for National School Social Work Week
This is National School Social Work Week. River Oaks Elementary uses this as an opportunity to recognize the work of their social worker Gail Esters.
School social workers are professionals within the school work field who work with teachers, parents, and school administrators.
They help students deal with mental health and behavioral challenges and provide academic and classroom support.
They also help in developing education policies, working with crisis interventions, and identifying and reporting child neglect and abuse.
Esters tells News 25 that the students make her job worthwhile because she gets to see these kids grow up. “It’s a wonderful feeling when you’re doing any work I think when you’re recognized for your efforts, but I feel blessed because I work with a wonderful group, teachers, faculty, staff, and administrators. I feel warmth. I feel loved. I feel great. I feel special.”
The school has showered Ms. Esters with gifts this week to show their appreciation.
