Ride 2 Recovery
A challenge to help veterans heal is rolling through Gulfport today.
In collaboration with the City of Gulfport and Island View Casino, over a hundred cyclists made a stop on the Coast for the second year in a row on the Ride 2 Recovery 2016 Gulf Coast Challenge.
Most of the riders are veterans and many of them have been injured. This six day ride from Atlanta to New Orleans is to rehabilitate veterans through the challenge of cycling long distances.
Patrick Zeigler was paralyzed on his left side after being shot in the head in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting. He tells News 25 he is thankful to have been able to participate in this ride.
The Ride 2 Recovery crew will complete their journey to New Orleans tomorrow. Accompanying them will be a group of Ingalls Shipyard representatives as well as the Gulfport fire chief and Gulfport’s economic development director.
