Revisiting Mississippi State vs. BYU

If you look back at the 2016 Mississippi State football season, the Bulldogs lost three games by three points or less, but the hardest loss of all was a seven point defeat at the hands of BYU.
That 28-21 loss went into double overtime, perpetuating what ended up being a season-long three-game losing streak for MSU.
Not to mention, it very easily could’ve kept a five game regular season winner out of bowl game contention. So there again in 2017, the Dawgs are coming off a pair of losses on the road to Georgia and Auburn prior to their bye week, but this time they get the Cougars at home coming off a somewhat deceiving five-game losing streak. Head Football Coach Dan Mullen said, “I’ve coached long enough to know that you watch some film and say okay, boy this team is struggling. Are they struggling or are they making some correctable mistakes, and what happens if they show up at your place and they correct all those mistakes or you have to go play them and they correct all those mistakes? Very different team that way, so I think that’s kind of hurt them. They still play really good defense, and getting their starting quarterback back could be a big benefit for them so I think we’ll see a little bit different outfit than you’ve seen the last couple of weeks.”
Win or lose, all five of MSU’s games this season have been decided by four touchdowns or more.
