Residents ‘uneasy’ As Gulfport Police Investigate Fatal Shooting

One man is dead following a shooting this morning outside of O’Reilly Auto Parts on Dedeaux Road in Gulfport.

Gulfport police are investigating the scene. News 25’s Lorraine Weiskopf spoke with a couple of people that work in the area who say they are disturbed by the shooting in their city.

“Kinda shocking to hear happen on a Monday morning first thing. Maybe three, four gunshots.” For long time Gulfport resident Jeremy Slade, his work week took a dark start as he and his crew were startled by gunshots. “I saw someone with a gun. We retreated and grabbed our fire arms, hoping nothing would come our way.”

It’s a first for Slade as he’s a business partner for Full Blown Fabrications which sits right next door to where the incident occurred at O’Reilly Auto Parts on Dedeaux Road. “Not right here. We’ve had things happen before around here, but not that.”

Among a crowd of concerned residents there was Pastor Cameron Jenkins of Opportunity Church. He believes all we can do is pray. “Particularly to be praying for the families that were impacted by today and anything that has happened in our city that is considered a tragedy.”
