Residents Concerned About Intersection in Gulfport

Two pedestrians have been hit and killed around the same intersection in Gulfport, alarming residents in the area.
Sixty-one year-old Karen Hanley was struck by a vehicle Saturday night at Pass Road and Ford Street.
Back in November, Douglas Mack was attempting to cross around the same intersection when he was hit and killed by a vehicle.
Both fatalities have residents living near the area in the Varnado’s Mobile Home Park worried about people who often cross Pass Road to pick up items at the Dollar General. Gulfport Resident Osmin Barahonn said, “They have to put some lights right there because it’s dangerous because when people cross the street to buy something at the Dollar General it’s dangerous, so they have to put some light on it.”
The two accidents happened about 700 feet from each other.
An investigation is underway to determine how and why Saturday’s crash occurred. At this time, there does not appear to be any criminal activity or impairments involved.
The cause of the crash back in November was due to pedestrian action. No charges were filed against the driver.
