Repairs complete on Gold Star Families Monument in Biloxi

Over in Biloxi, Hurricane Zeta repairs continue to move along at a steady pace and one downtown monument damaged by the storm is ready for visitors once again.

A four-man team from Bailey Granite in Kentucky made repairs to the Gold Star Families Monument yesterday morning.

Although there was some minor damage to the granite panels, the monument has been put back into service as it was before the storm.

The crew did some repair work to the damaged panels and then carefully cleaned them and lifted them back into place.

City officials say it was important to get a team in to carefully repair the tribute to families of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Cecilia Dobbs-Walton with the City of Biloxi said, “The city did what they could, worked as hard as they can, to get people down here from the company that installed it to put it back in place and get it back up to where residents can come out and visitors can come out and pay their respects.”

The monument was first installed last year by the city in Guide Park.

Recovery and clean up work continues at right of ways and city parks by the various city departments.
