Repair Work on Pearl River Bridge to Begin Friday
Work to replace old expansion joints will begin Friday at 7 p.m. and will continue until the morning at 7 a.m. During construction, one lane in each direction will be closed, and wide loads will be restricted to a width of 11 feet. Crews will work 24 hours a day to complete repairs as quickly as possible, but the Mississippi Department of Transportation (M.D.O.T.) is warning there may be significant delays.
Chuck Starita of M.D.O.T. says, "We definitely think we are going to have an impact on traffic and there is no good time to do work on the interstate, but hopefully with our aggressive schedule that we have, we will be able to get it done quick. This weekend, we will be doing the outside lanes eastbound and westbound. Next weekend, we’ll do the inside lanes.”
Starita says that the public probably won’t notice the finished repairs, but replacing the old joints will save time and money.
