Rent a room and a dog

One local hotel is working hard to make sure guests feel right at home while giving back to the community.

Home2Suites in D’Iberville has really gone to the dogs with their new program that takes the phrase ‘pet friendly hotel’ to a whole new level. Home2Suites Director of Sales Teresa Johnston said, “Our guests have so much of everything they need to make it home, but they were missing one element: their animals. So, we thought why not bring two great things together: a great property with extended stay and an animal.”

The goal of having the dogs on site is to get as many animals adopted as possible, Home2Suites has partnered up the Humane Society of South Mississippi to bring this program to life. “This property allows them the opportunity to walk the animal, to take it up to their room to watch a movie, or take it on a day trip or even just take it outside to do its business,” said Johnston.

This program, which started in October, has been a huge success. So far, nine dogs have been adopted through this unique system. “Putting people together with loving animals is what we want to do. Animals that are not vicious or bark and we are sticking to the smaller dogs. So my guests have that feeling of ‘oh, I want to love on that animal,’” said Johnston.

It is not just guests who get to spend time with these dogs, local residents are encouraged to stop by and see the animals and even take them out for a walk.  If you are interested in adopting or spending time with one of these dogs, stop by Home2Suites in D’Iberville. “But come on in if you are serious and you will be glad that you did. You know, take a walk, try him on, is he the missing link in your family? Come in like that and I guarantee that you will be delighted that you did.”
