Removing holiday wreaths at Biloxi National Cemetery
On December 2, more than one thousand volunteers helped place the 20,000 wreaths on grave sites during the fifth annual Laying of the Wreaths.
Now that the holidays are over, it is time for the wreaths to be removed and the committee is again calling for volunteers. The laying of the wreaths is a special way to honor those who served. Riemann Family Funeral Homes have been very happy to carry on this tradition for five years.
Chad Riemann tells News 25 volunteers are a crucial part of the whole process. “Rain or shine, no matter the temperature, we are going to meet at Biloxi National Cemetery for our wreath pickup and this year we will have three tractor trailers to load and approximately 19 to 20 thousand wreaths to load. We had a big volunteer effort when we prepped the wreaths and then we had a large volunteer effort when we placed the wreaths on the graves. We are asking the community once again to come out and help us pick them up.”
Those who want to volunteer should arrive at Biloxi National Cemetery on Saturday at 8 a.m. For more information call 228-539-9800.
