REMINDER: Children are required to be immunized before entering public or private schools, Head Start or daycare
While the upcoming school year is still several weeks away, the Mississippi Department of Health wants to remind you it’s never too soon to make sure your kids have the required immunizations before school starts.
Each year, Mississippi state law requires children to be immunized against childhood diseases before entering public or private schools, Head Start or daycare. Health officials say there are many options for where you can get your kids vaccinated now, including private medical providers, some retail pharmacies and county health departments.
There are required vaccinations for first-time students at Mississippi schools as well as those going into the seventh grade. Seventh graders are required to get a T-Dap booster vaccination. The HPV and meningococcal vaccinations are also strongly encouraged for those going into the seventh grade.
