Regulators Eye Costs for Parts of Kemper Plant
Utility regulators began a hearing to determine whether Mississippi Power Company spent prudently in the construction of the Kemper Power Plant.
The outcome of this prudency hearing will ultimately determine how three public service commissioners vote next month on whether the Southern Company can keep collecting an 18 percent rate increase from its 186,000 customers.
Some South Mississippi business leaders attended today’s meeting in Jackson, urging a lower rate increase.
Commissioners could make a final decision on just how much that rate hike will be at its next meeting in December.
