Registration open for Kids Fire Academy

Calling all future firefighters, registration is now open for Biloxi Kids Fire Academy Camp.

The ninth annual camp is set to take place this June in Biloxi. The camp aims to teach children life safety tips and how firemen go about their jobs. Kids will get to dress like a firefighter, learn how to do CPR training, and more. The camp is free for ages seven to 12 and is limited to 40 participants.

Biloxi Fire Department Chief Vincent Payne tells News 25 that while the academy is fun, it’s essential for children in learning how to safely act around fire. “You  know a lot of kids tend to play with matches and fire out of curiosity and a lot of times things can go wrong with that. We also want kids to be comfortable with them, the firemen, in case of emergency. If they do have a house fire not to hide from the firemen, that they’ll be in suits and a mask, and to where they won’t be scared of the firefighters. So, we try and teach them all of that stuff for practice, for safety.”
