Reflecting on the first week of school at South Hancock Elementary

Last Thursday was the first day of school for the dolphins at South Hancock Elementary School.

Teachers and staff are keeping their students as socially distanced as possible in and out of the classroom.

During lunch, the students eat in the cafeteria to maximize distance between them. Lunch is divided by grade level and students are split up on each side of the cafeteria.

While this year has been challenging, second year Principal Maci Torres remains very optimistic. She is happy to have her students back and receiving great feedback from parents. “I was so excited to see our babies back again. I begged ‘please don’t push school back.’ Parents have been great. We haven’t had any complaints, even with all of the changes this school year. They’ve been a great support.”

There are roughly 600 students at South Hancock Elementary, 100 of those students are enrolled in the virtual learning option.
