Reduced Monthly Power Bills

Mississippi Power customers could see a lower monthly rate on power bills as early as February of next year.
The company’s annual fuel filing includes a look back on cost projects from the previous year, as well as a preview of the year ahead. This year’s projection involves about a $13.70 per month decrease for residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours. The fuel cost is usually about a third of an average monthly bill.
Mississippi Power spokesman Jeff Shepard said, “We expect the Public Service Commission in Jackson, who regulates Mississippi Power, they’ll take it up more than likely in January. If they approve it, it will go into effect in February. That’s when it will start hitting customer bills.”
Earlier this month, Mississippi Power agreed with the Public Service Commission to set Kemper rates between 13 and 15 percent, down from the 18 percent previously charged.
