Red Cross testing blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies
Yesterday the American Red Cross began testing all blood, platelet, and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies.
During these unprecedented times officials with the Red Cross hope that testing for COVID-19 antibodies will provide donors with insight into whether they may have been exposed to the coronavirus.
Everyone who comes in to donate their blood will have it tested for free and the Red Cross will have their results within seven to 10 days.
The results can be found through the Red Cross Blood Donor app or the online donor portal at Redcrossblood.org. John McFarland with American Red Cross Southeast MS Chapter said, “It is not a diagnostic test. It does not guarantee that you do or do not have the virus, but it is a very helpful piece of information. So, it started yesterday and it will continue for a while. It’s one of a number of tests that happen with your blood.”
The Media 4 Red Cross Campaign kicks off next Tuesday the 23rd throughout the Gulf Coast.
