Red Cross assessing the damage from Cristobal

The Red Cross is currently assessing all of the damage left behind across the state by Cristobal.

The American Red Cross shelters and feeds people after a disaster. There was not a lot of demand for those services in the wake of Cristobal.

There were just a few people across the state who did have to be placed in hotels due to the storm damage on their homes. The Red Cross is still currently completing the damage assessment.

As the Red Cross works to help people in need, they also have the added hurdle of having to comply with COVID-19 safety regulations.  John McFarland with the American Red Cross Southeast MS Chapter said, “It was different because under the COVID environment we did not want to open the shelters if it was possible because of the danger of putting too many people together in one place. There were a couple of shelters on standby, but fortunately we didn’t need them.”

If your home was damaged during the storm the Red Cross asks that you reach out and let them know of the damage.
