Record setting tiger shark at MS Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo
The 71st annual Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo in Gulfport continues into its fourth day and already record breaking catches have been brought in.
This year, two grand prizes of $25,000 each will be awarded to the record-breaking sting ray and tiger shark catches. The current first place tiger shark weighed in at 675 pounds and is now the pending-state record.
The old record of 390 pounds was set by David Rogers in 2016. This afternoon, he brought in a tiger shark with hopes it would beat the pending record holder, but came in shy, weighing 494 pounds. “I’ve been fishing this tournament for about 10 years, 12 years. I like the area. I like the venue. It’s a lot of fun. There are a lot of people here. They’ve something for everyone to do and enjoy. We just enjoy it.”
The rodeo wraps up Wednesday night with a fireworks show at 8:45 and with festivities in Jones Park ending at 11.
